About the tournament

The Paris Grand Slam is an annual judo competition held in February at the Accor Arena. From its first edition, held on 6 February 1971, to the 16th, which took place in 1987, the tournament was open to men only. In 1988, women’s categories were incorporated to follow the trend of bringing male and female tournaments together at the same event. While it had traditionally been held at the Pierre-de-Coubertin Stadium ever since it was founded, the tournament moved to the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy for the year 2000 competition. While the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy was undergoing renovation work, the tournament was postponed until October 2015, when it would be the first event at the newly renamed Accor Arena. It was that same year that the tournament changed its name to the Paris Grand Slam. Organised by the French Judo Federation, the Paris Grand Slam is a major event on the international calendar, thanks to its Super World Cup (Super A) status. In Olympic years, it is one of the qualifying events for the Games, held every four years. As of 2009, the tournament has been one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
